Hi Stuart,

Just because you have the program, you are publishing it in flash 10, it does not mean that you have the player for flash 10 installed on your Pc. You can download it free from the adobe website though...

Sorry, but it's hard just to guess what is your problem. To help you we need to see the code, have a link to your site or at least have a description of the message you are referring.

Okay let me hijack this thread as I am having pretty much the same issue and getting nowhere after last night and this morning..

I put Flash video into HTML page (tried both FLV and SWF). Preview out of DW works great - does exactly what I want to do. I upload to site, open page and get this message - Content on this page requires a newer version of Adobe Flash Player. My hyperlink that is under the video is there, so I know the page is good, just a Flash Video issue. Okay, I have downloaded and installed Flash Player 10 a couple of times now, just in case it really was the issue. No help.

My file hierarchy on website is as such:
public_html > media (assorted folders and files in each)
I put my HTML page in public_html and the FLV (or SWF as needed) in media. The Scripts folder that DW generated is actually now sitting in both public and media folders.
I have moved stuff around hoping for a connection.

Oh, since this might be important - the Flash files were generated via Squeeze 5.1 from a Quicktime movie outed from Final Cut.

If it is helpful, here is the code from this very simple page (just a page that is being linked from an upcoming email blast).

The code looks OK. Can you post a link to your site?

As a suggestion, I'm using right now SWFOBJECT, a code tool from google that allows you to place alternate HTML content for your SWF files very easy. It's a good SEO friendly way to embed a flash file.

I have the same problem. I have a Dreamweaver template where there's a simple flash heading and then a flash menu on the left side.

Ever since I upgraded to CS4, the flash components don't work in IE. It's just blank. Dreamweaver prompted me to delete and re-add them into the page, so I did, and now they don't work at all. My client is complaining because many people use IE 6 and I have IE7 and it's not showing up for me, either. Looks fine in FireFox.

Why is inserting a flash file now HARDER than it was before? IT makes no sense to me!!

Thanks for ANY help you can give.

The site is: http://www.muttmatchla.com

Sorry that link wont' show the problem now because I had to replace my flash files with .jpgs to get it working for my client.

So disturbing that something that worked for me for 10 years is now so complicated and doesn't work after upgrading.

I am seeing this all over the place lately...

You're page looks ok in everything except IE6... IE7 is ok.

I will investigate this further but it seems that either...

a) since i downloaded the latest flash player, IE6 seems not to be working correctly

or

b). My IE6 tester is duff...

I have IE 7 and it doesn't work. I can't upgrade because I work with Convio for my job, and they only work with IE 7 as of this time.

Like I said, I had to replace my flash files with .jpgs so if you see that site now, it'll look fine.

I am seeing other people having this problem and/or the one where it asks you to load the most recent Flash Player, and believe me my flash and flash player is up to date.

Thanks SO much for any help you can give me on this.

Can you also tell me why Flash is no longer stand-alone? Why does it need all those new generated scripts? I like how it worked before :(

I think, or rather i assume, that flash used to put the code required directly into the page, but now it creates a link to a folder with the script in it to keep the actual html page cleaner...? But as i said, I'm only really guessing on this.

I couldn't figure it out, but I really have taken a fast look.

I also couldn't access the swf directly.

Right now, if you are in a hurry, all I can do is recommend an alternate way to place swf files. It's called swfobject and it's a code generated by google to give an easy way to place alternate html content to a flash site.

If you are interested in use it go to the following link:

http://code.google.com/p/swfobject/

Go to the downloads section and download the swfobject and one of the two swfobject code generators (air or html).

Extract the swfobject.js file and place it in your root folder.

Open the swfobject code generator. I have the air version.

In the "detect flash version" write the version you want to use.
in the "SWF definition" section write the name of your swf file and the dimensions. Click "more" if you want to use other options like autoplay, loop or windowmode.

In the "HTML definition" add the alternate content for your flash file.

Click "generate" and copy/paste the HTML code. Note the code is fully generated, but if you want to place your flash inside an already designed page just copy the script code form the head and all the code inside the body (the div).

I hope this helps.

I was having the same problems and was stumped until I tried something else. I created a new page, completely outside of my dreamweaver "site". When adding a new Flash movie, I saw there were additional files created to upload to the server.

There is a folder called "SCRIPTS" that needs to be uploaded.

And here's the kicker that finally made it work..

upload these files too:
FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf
Clear_Skin_1.swf

These two files uploaded, relative to where the page resides will finally make it play!

Hi!

You need to add the .flv extension to your website in your webserver.
Click Properties in your website, then HTTP Headers, then MIME Types and force the .flv extension top open with: video/x-flv.

This worked for me.

Is there some additional code I need? My swf file plays just fine on the Flash Player 10. The gray Flash placeholder shows but does not play when I insert it into a div. The Flash file was done in CS4. I have never had trouble inserting a Flash File into a Dreamweaver container before. Is this a bug which has been worked out in CS5?

Thanks, Trish

Stack JonesNeed HELP!!!
by on Dec 6, 2009 at 10:02:18 am

I have a presentation in 2 days in Tokyo. And I'm panicking.

I'm on am Intel Mac OS X 10.4.11. I have the latest version of Flash Player 10 installed. (Not the brand new beta version).

I created a great website in Dreamweaver MX a few years ago. I never had ANY issues with .swf files until using this garbage Adobe calls Dreamweaver CS4.

I updated my photography portfolios in Adobe Bridge, and used Dreamweaver CS4 to link them. They work in preview. NO issues there. But, NONE of the .swf files that were always viewable are showing.

There is absolutely NO Flash content showing on any page. Not even in browser view in Safari, or Firefox. I uploaded the files along with the newly created SCRIPTS folder to my server, and still no .swf files are viewable. These are NOT FLV files they are .swf files that were imbedded properly, and were always viewable. Until now.

I have to go to Tokyo in two days give a presentation of this site.

What is the problem?

PLEASE don't respond with banter. This is a very serious issue that must be resolved, or I'm hosed for a desperately needed job in Tokyo.

If your site works locally then the problem must be a missing file on the upload.

Instead of select your files and upload them, try to hit the Synchronize button (the circular arrows). DW will analyze both the remote and local files and will show you a list of files you are missing to update on the remote.

I hope this helps

Thanks for responding Richard...

I was able to rework the code so that the .swf (navigation) works, however there is a .swf in the middle of the page that loads images with XML that is just not showing up.

I made several different passes using information obtained by this thread and was only able to get the buttons to work.

thanks again for responding to this and any additional help would be greatly appreciated!

Thx,

Hello, Everybody. I had a very interesting situation similar to what is happeing on this Thread. I oddly enough had one html w/ flash working just fine and one html (newly added flash)not working at all! Before I go into the long detail I should probably note that this is all due to a scripts path issue. I went through the code in both html documents only to find these slight differences that made all of the difference:

working_html: <script src="Scripts/swfobject_modified.js"
type="text/javascript">

NOT working_html: <script src="/Scripts/swfobject_modified.js"
type="text/javascript">
hint: forward slash before Scripts

This was something I consistently found through out the non-working_html. I also found it in the Other places this did not work were:

param name="expressinstall" value="Scripts/expressInstall.swf">

This may have been present in the swf file path but it's late and I cant remember, plus I already saved my corrected not-working_html to view it in the dreamweaver Cs4 browser preivew. It worked thank goodness for that comparing document. I somehow (i remember now)moved my root folder contents around, which unknown to me caused this to happen. Goodluck and I hope this has helped you as well as ME....Yeaaaaa!

I searched for the code you mentioned and didn't find it.

I still have the same issue of Firefox telling me my Flash player is out of date - after installing, uninstalling, reinstalling, etc - and both locally and on the site I get the message that I need a newer version of the player.

If anyone has a solution, this would be very helpful.

I tested your site in Firefox 3.6 with Shockwave Flash Player 10.0.32.18 running on Vista 64 and it worked just fine.

Could there be something wrong in your browser?

Try uninstalling the Flash player and reinstall it again. My FF is in Spanish, so I'll try to translate: in Firefox go to the menu >Tools >Complements, then choose the tab for "Plugins" and manage the Flash plug-in from there. I just found out there's an update on the Flash player for me!

Thanks Fernando.

I tried that and I already have the later version of Flash (10.0.45.2).

Could it be something in Dreamweaver? When I load the SWF file in Dreamweaver it displays a small blue icon at the top left of the file. And when I click on that it also says that I need a newer version of the Flash plugin.

So it's giving me the error message both offline and online.

Your swf file is empty.

It's just a swf or it contains video?

If it has video, you need to upload the video file, the controls and any other attached external file too.

I figured it out. DW CS4 creates a Script file on the root folder and generates JScript files. But it was missing another 2 JScript files to make it work. All together for some reason you need to have in your Script file on the root folder AC_ActiveX, AC_RunActiveContent, swfobject_modified, and expressInstall.

Hello All

I have read through this thread and heres my problem. I createdswf files from mpegs my client gave me and I can play them indepetly, but in both CS4 Dreamweaver and on the site the swfs will not play.

My guesses are I am
1) missing some script files since I read that on this forum - although I am not sure which ones I need
2) the original mpges my client provided have some issue and perhaps it carried over to the swf.
3) I dont have the proper supporting swf files (ie skins.swf ect) . Currently I have one single Skinplayer.swf file grouped in with my swfs. I am wondering should I move this into my scripts folder?

Another side issue - In Dreamweaver CS4 the site will never show when I do a "preview in Firefox" command. In all the other browsers the page will show up. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

DETAILS ARE BELOW:

The link to the site is http://www.cutpro-video.com/info.html

The code I have listed is as follows

Teresa MoranSWF File not playing in IE 8.06
by on May 11, 2010 at 5:56:44 pm

I have used a flash slide show maker from (http://www.flash-slideshow-maker.com/) to create a swf file to display a rolling powerpoint slide show. It runs ok in Firefox, Google Chrome and Safari but won't run in IE8.06. I need some code to add to IE. Can any help Please.

This is the only piece of code needed to run the slideshow that has been created automatically by the flash slide show maker software. I have tested this on the different browers but it wont plan in IE. Its just coming up blank.

I've had this exact same issue. My flash slideshow (from Flash-Slideshow-maker) runs great in every browser except IE. Here's a link to the site in question:

William ChidubeRe: Flash files won`t play in Dreamweaver CS4 ?

I had the same problem, came to this forum and others and discovered that it still wasn't solved. Here is the reason why flash wont play in IE:
extensive use of css in your script. Using a lot of css in your script hampers the ability to play flash inserted using CS4 in IE.

Proposed solution:

try using tables on pages where you will need flash to be displayed or just use older versions of dream weaver.
