I successfully embedded a SWF file using Dreamweaver CS4 :-), I can view it ONLY in Firefox, but not IE or Safari...I've updated Flash players and Shockwave players...I just see a white box where the swf is supposed to be playing. I have my site posted temporarily (until finished) at the following link:
http://houston.ponyclub.org
there should be a swf file on the HOME page at the bottom of the screen
AND there should be a SWF video on the HOUSTON page.

Hey, I'm a DW novice myself, but I had the same problem when previewing IE. Try this tip. Within IE Try
Tools > Internet Options, Advanced tab
Ensure "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer" is checked.
You probably have to reboot Windows XP to get it to work. That's what I had to do.
Nevetheless, I am having another similar problem.
My SWF will NOT play on my Windows 98 machine in IE, even though I never have trouble playing my flash content on the Win 98 machine. When I go to the page in IE it says...

Please describe the method you are using for embed.
The standard is going to the menu >insert >media >swf
The code DW place is kind of different than the one used in the sites of this post.
There are some ways to embed a swf using javascript. If you like you can try the SWFOBJECT tool from google. It's like the SEO standard to embed flash movies with alternate content into your HTML.
