I just got Dreamweaver cs4, but I cant seem to figure out how to edit my existing website through it. I read the tutorials and they say I need to copy the entire site to Dreamweaver, and repost it everytime I change something?
It also says I could set up Dreamweaver to work with my server, but I dont have the info it asks for and I'm not sure how that works?
Until now I've used Frontpage and on there, all I had to do was click File>Open Web and it would bring up a login box, I type in my username and password and be in the site. And then all I had to do was click "save" and my page was updated.
I'm wondering if there is something like that on Dreamweaver, or what the easiest way is. If someone could clear this up it would help me alot.

You need the FTP access to your site. Usually your host service provider send you all of this data in an email.
Server: The name of the FTP server. Usually "yourdomain.com"
Directory: The HTTP directory. Usually "httpdocs"
Username: Self explanatory
Password: I don't want to know this one, but you will
My Dreamweaver is in spahish, so I will guess the names. Wish us luck:
1. In the lower right corner you have a Files pannel.
2. In the upper left corner of your Files pannel there is a drop down menu.
3. In the bottom of this drop down menu is an option called "Administrate Sites". Select this one. It will pop up a window.
4. In that window select "New/Site". A new window will appear.
5. There you can define your site. DW gives you two options in the upper part of this window: Basic and Advanced. Use the Basic.
6. Everything should be self explanatory, the important thing is, in the part 3 of the wizard, you need to select a folder for your files. Select the one in you local computer where you have your site, the one that holds the index.html.
Click OK, OK and that will be all. In the Files panel should be your your site.

In the part where I have to select the folder that my files are in is where I am having trouble right now because I don't have the files on my computer. I've never had to have them on there with my other program, so am I going to need to copy them all onto my computer in order to update my site with dreamweaver?
Or are they actually on my computer? I'm not sure because the only way I could get to them was by going through Frontpage, double clicking on http://www.mywebsite.com and then typing in my password and they would show up.

1. Be sure your files window is open, if not go to to the upper Menu/Window/Files
2. In the upper right corner of the files window there's a pop up menu, click on it
3. Select Site/Get
4. Dreamwever will ask you if you're sure to download the entire site
5. Click yes
BTW, my DW is in Spanish, so I'm guessing the names.
