Glitch? Optimize images replaces them randomly

So I had three jpegs in one table cell, and once I had finalized their size and layout I was going down the column in order first resampling and then optimizing them. Weirdly, when I got to the third image, it had been replaced by the second image. Then randomly it was replaced by the first image. I deleted it and went to reinsert the image, but now in the insert image dialogue box the image appears IN ITS ORIGINAL FORM FOR HALF A SECOND AND THEN IS REPLACED BY THE FIRST IMAGE.
How weird is that? Am I doing something wrong?
