Converter Codes for Vid in Explorer
by Eric Martin on Apr 23, 2008 at 12:36:39 pm

Apparently, the new version of Internet Explorer doesn't handle or recognize object video in
the way it used to, as DW keeps warning me that my video may not play without converting
the code. I've done the cursory searches, but have yielded little in the way of a satisfactory
solution. Any hints, or better yet, codes?

Here's what I have for my ActivX vids now:

and the url:

Thanks.

The way to bypass Explorer's active X blocker of Flash and other active X objects is to use javascript to place the object code into the web page. Whatever script you want to do that with is fine. Dreamweaver has one that is built into it that is very satisfactory. It will embed any active X content this way when you use DW to embed or it will convert your old code. For those who have javascript turned off it includes a <noscript> version.

OK. Forgive my naivete, but how do you do that? Is it just a matter of turning javascript on or highlighting the already embedded script and performing a javascript function on it? The error message DW gives me says it can't convert it, and that I'll have to reconcile it some other way.
I don't see where the javascript funtcionality is in the prefs or menus.

If Dreamweaver is having trouble automatically converting your active x content for you try removing it and then using Dreamweaver to reembed your active x content.

There's a little tutorial on embedding quicktime movies using dw - this covers some of what you are looking for and has some good information on it.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Abraham. This did help. For a while. But now the movies on my site have all spontaneously
stopped working and I've tried everything to bring them back - to no avail. Went through your tutorial
again and still I get either a white box or the dreaded red x. I even tried bringing my movie in as a Flash
file (as well as QT, WMV, etc.) and can not get it back on line. What gives. The boss man wants my head on a stick.

Here's the code and url:

AC_AX_RunContent( 'classid','02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B','codebase','http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab','width','320','height','240','src','RockCityOpener2.mov','autoplay','true' ); //end AC code

Help me Obi Wan, you're my only hope.
