I am fairly good at photoshop and very computer literate. However, I have never made a website before and I want a good easy WYSIWYG design program. What program would you recommend dreamweaver, golive, or something simpler. I am good with design and would like to include photos and video in the site.

THank you all in advance

While Dreamweaver and GoLive are sort of WYSIWYG, they're more like WYSIWYG for web designers. In other words, they excel if you know what's going on with the code while you work in their environment. They're convenient tools, but you'll eventually have to adjust code or CSS to get something to work right. Probably true for all html editors.

GoLive is probably going to go away in favor of DW, since they're both the same company, Adobe. But no announcements yet.

If you are really a visual guy, you may want to try Softpress Systems Freeway 4 Pro. I've played with free downloads in the past, and from the looks of it, version 4 is pretty cool. They sell it on the apple website. I think it only works for macs.

You might try iWeb if you're on a mac as well. The templates are pretty cool, and it's ridiculously simple to use. But I don't think you can do much for your own designs.

If you're not on a mac, I am sorry. I'm sure there are some cool apps out there. Don't mess with Frontpage. Even if it will do what you want for now, it'll lead you down the wrong path. Your page will be a horrible mess of code that is non standard.

SiteSpinner is the easiest to use program for creating nice-looking web sites without a lot of bells and whistles (which is what DW is really good for).

You can try a full-functionality version for a month before deciding if it's worth $50.

I have seen several very nice web sites created with this software by people who knew nothing about web design.

Their "clever idea" is to use absolute page addressing. Saves all the table stuff that screws up many beginners.

Frontpage costs much more and produces very messy HTML code, which is amazing after so many years and so many versions.

It really depends on what your trying to do. I want to start creating sites like Hollywood does to house and market my movies. Right now I'm using FrontPage 2000 but switching to Dreamweaver because it integrates with Flash Pro 8 which I'm studying. FrontPage 2000 has been awesome for what I'm using it for, simple and embeding movies and flash graphics in it's pages is easy. Check out my site http://www.artinfilm.com

I use Wildform Wildfx Pro for flash text and edit my grahics in Vegas and convert to flash graphics using Sorenson Squeeze. AE 7 now converts to flash so you can use it for that. Hope this helps.

I guess we could point out that the code only uses the outdated EMBED tag for your swfs. The current spec is to use active x objects with classids, and also embed just as a backup for someone using a browser from say... 2000. But new browsers aren't required to even read the embed tag anymore.

The rest of your page is pretty straightforward and doesn't really give Frontpage a chance at screwing up the code, but drop a few rollovers and CSS into the mix you'll get some beautiful slop.
