Splitting and Editing .flv files
by Stuart Christensen on Sep 25, 2009 at 2:09:59 am

Hello Esteemed Flash Masters!

I am from the world of video editing and not too heavy on reconfiguring .flv videos. Is it just me or something? You would think that Adobe would include it's own built in utility to natively import and edit .flv videos into Premiere or Flash (CS4), without having to jump through major hoops just to split a large .flv file into say...3 parts, and add a title slug before and and after each part...(Stay tuned for part 2!). As of the moment, I can't seem to find the perfect way to do this.

My handicap is that I don't work a whole lot with Flash at the moment, although it's a beautiful program and I intend to fully learn it's secrets soon.

I have all the original videos as an (H264) and (.MOV):
I work on a Mac and use FCP suite, and the entire Adobe Suite.

My problem is this: I need to split about 70 videos (40-50 minutes each) into Youtube friendly "10 minute" chunks. I really don't want to edit and re-encode the original "master" files.

I would like to simply use the .flv file that I have, and split them up and add a simple title page before and after each video and save these segments as individual video clips, without any recompression. Is this possible?

Could you good Flash People point me in the right direction? I've searched the Cow Forums and researched on the "GoogleMachine", but have found very little. I've hit up Adobes site but can't seem to find the right information or section for this task.

Any response would be greatly appreciated! Thank you all. STU

Hello Mike, thanks for the response! Sorry I'm so late in the response to this post. I posted it in several forums and forgot to check back. Thanks for the video links! I eventually figured everything out! All is well! Cheers! STU
