Adding a new page
by Chris Poole on Aug 14, 2008 at 5:14:30 pm

Hello All;

First off let me state that I have surfed the forums and found other posts on the topic of adding a new flash page to a web template. Unfortunately I am an extreme nooby and don't really understand what was said.

I bought a flash template and from trial and error,etc.. I have realized that to modify existing pages in the template I go to movie clip called page in the library and click on different key frames to modify the contact on corresponding pages. Yes there is actions scripts attached to each page but I honestly don't really understand it.

Can someone please break it down for me in "english = basic instructions" on how to add a new page to my flash template.

Thanks in advance for your understanding and patience.

Cheers
Chris

Unfortunately, the problem with templates is that they are all programmed differently and generally made to be difficult to customize. If you send me your template, I can help. Attach the FLA and send to original.svelte at gmail dot com.

Hi Sam;

Thanks very much for the help. I will send it right away.

But can I ask that you not go ahead and add the pages, I would prefer if you could give me instruction on how to accomplish it myself. I really want to learn how to work with this program, I think it's great.

FYI: I am using Adobe Flash CS3 Pro.

Cheers
Chris

In that case buying templates isn't usually the best thing to do. The code in a template is often written in such a way that it becomes very unreadable (and thus harder to add things). Furthermore, templates hardly ever deal with stuff like video and external data, things that I generally use in a lot of my projects. You learn far more by just experimenting and starting your own website from scratch.

We have some great tutorials that will help you get started straight away.

Kind regards,
Pieter

General notice: from now on, I would like to ask everyone to put [AS2] or [AS3] (corresponding to the version of actionscript you are using on your project) in front of their post titles when the question is actionscript related! Please help us help you faster. Thank you.

To fix the cursor problem:
1. Open from "scroll copy" folder in the library:
"page_content_scroll_1_00"
2. Select the top pic "pic_04_2" and open the actions
3. Get rid of everything in the on(rollOver) except for the gotoAndPlay...
4. Same goes for the on(rollOut).
*It's the Mouse.hide that specifically is doing it.

I'll get back with the instructions for page adding when I can.

Hope that helps,
Sam

Hi Sam

Thx very much.. I did what you said and it worked for the one specific pic. So I would assume I should go into each picture and go through the same process.

You are correct, sir. Can you see why it's suggested not to add code directly to objects? Talk about a pain in the @ss to find/change it all when you need to.

Hope that helps,
Sam
