Create a download dialog with FileReference
by Kevin Petty on Jul 18, 2008 at 3:48:32 pm

Hello gang,

Im creating a webpage in Flash CS3 that will contain videos in WMV format for people to download. I would like them to be able to save the files as opposed to them being played in a browser.

It seems that using FileRefernce is the way to go, but I cant seem to find very much documentation about how to achieve. Unfortunately Im not the most Flash savvy person in the world so I couldnt completely understand the Adobe LiveDocs article :(

I would really appreciate any help you all could give me on this.

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

Hey Kevin,

I had some fun with this and created an example for you.
You can download the file here.

This file is in Actionscript 3! The AS2 version is a little different, so let me know if you're working in AS2.

Kind regards,
Pieter

Pieter

That example is PERFECT! Exactly what I needed. The sample file makes it very eas for me to break it down and understand better :) And of course, the WMV you provided was great.

Thank you very much for taking time to help me out.
Kevin
