Navigation Buttons with Swap Image

I'm trying to do something like this...

...probably not as complicated, though.
My existing navigation is just DIVs that change color during hover. I want to add a panel next to the buttons that will wipe through different images that relate to the button that is being hovered.
Question - Can I make Flash buttons that fit into my existing DIVs, that will control a flash movie (in another DIV) that would wipe through different images that relate to whichever button that is being hovered - portfolio, bio, etc.
Or, should I create a single flash movie that holds both the buttons and the wiping image sequence, and fit this single flash component into a larger single DIV?
Obviously, I barely know anything about Flash - let alone the scripting that it will take to make this happen, but that's for another day.
