font with gradient

I am trying to do this kind of font or similar in Flash: www.asappaving.com (where it's colorful and with stars). I wrote the text I want, after I selected the text and tried to insert the gradient tool, it did not work. Please any help. Thanks in advance.

I think text doesnt work with gradients. I would use the text as a mask layer for a shape with the gradient. Also, you could convert the text to shapes but that never gave me good results, its a bit messy. Try it and let me know.
