What is a standard screen size for a flash web site?

I just made a flash site and I uploaded it to the web. When it opens there is a good amount of white around the flash page. When I open it on my Mac there is a lot of space, but when I open it on a PC there is much less. How can I make it a standard size so it will look the same across any browser?

Anyone know how to make a preloading bar?

The answer is, "you can't."
Welcome to the world of web-design.
The problem isn't platform or browser, it's screen resolution.
You have no control over the screen resolution a viewer will be using.
The average person uses 1024X768, but lots of people (especially professionals) don't.
This changes over time, a few years ago 800X600 was the most common, prior to that 640X480 (similar to a television).
I, for instance use 1680X1050. Not only is this a larger screen resolution, but it is also widescreen meaning it really won't look the way you intend on my monitor.
The trick is to figure out how to work with this issue.
There are a lot of options. Some people tile a background behind it, others use a solid color, some have the flash window open in a pop-up sized to its dimensions. The solution can even be as simple as centering the swf so it looks framed by the white space.

Well there is no set size you can use to make everything look pretty, sadly. You will notice most sites use pop ups with size specific flash. This way you can control the browser size with the pop up.
If this isn't an option, the recent trend has been setting your flash dimensions to 100%x100% and using the Resize listener to detect when the user changes the browser size. Then you will wanna set your flash Scale mode to "No Scale or "Exact Fit". Depending on your needs. This will allow you to scale your flash to fit the browser. Instead of trying to make the browser fit your content.
