Well aguirre

If you are a moderately intelligent guy, have the ability to forget everything you know about AE's timeline and keyframe and you have the sheer willpower to start at the beginning of a book (for instance the flashbible or whatever) and work your way straight to the end, you can learn to use Flash in a week. (a month if you do it in your spare time).
I didn't have all those skills so it took me 3 months before i even got a button to work, (however I came from livemotion, but forget that former adobe flashkiller).

It could be wise to invest in a class, but there are lots of books that can teach you the basics and beyond.
I like the books written by Sham Bengal. He is a good writer who not only gives you plain solutions but also shows you the possibillities of flash.

hope it helps

I would suggest that it depends on how you learn. I learned Flash from the tutorials in the help menu, and online tutorials (mostly from flashkit). I looked things up particular to how I wanted the end product to work and made the rest up as I went.

Also, based on my recentness to the college class setting, I would say if you are program savvy to not bother with classes. They move slow enough for students with little to no experience, and with you already knowing AE many concepts can easily be picked up because of the similarities.
