Flash Basics...

Hi,
I had some basic questions in regard to Flash. I'm thinking of adding a Flash doc to my website which contains; a movie, stills and audio.
My questions are:
-How long can a Flash doc be, before it starts to effect load time? Im guessing it depends what my clip contains, so maybe I should ask what file size should I shoot for?
-How large can I make the viewer, in which my Flash doc is shown in? Does the viewer size effect the file size that much?
I was watching the Flash tutorial on this site and liked the size of it. Although I don't think my projects will be as long.

Hi Mike. I'll try to answer your questions below...
"How long can a Flash doc be, before it starts to effect load time?"
The length of your movie is not the thing to worry about when it comes to load time, its the amount of graphics, audio, video, etc in your file. As for a target file size it really depends on the application. For a rich media type of site I wouldn't go over a couple of megs. For all other things I have an "under a meg" rule that I always follow.
"How large can I make the viewer, in which my Flash doc is shown in? Does the viewer size effect the file size that much?"
You can make your movie as big as you want and again it will be your symbols and media that will make or break the filesize.

Lee,
Ok. Than just a few more questions to help me plan this.
I'll be editing the sequence in Final Cut Pro. I'm guessing it will probably be about 2 minutes, maybe less. It will consist of mostly video and an audio track, with maybe a few stills shown in between the video.
So, how should I export the clip out of FCP once edited? What file type?
What file type should the photos be? I usually use PSD.
What's the average 'window' size for a Flash project?
I realize there may be some trial and error here but if you can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

If you are just going to make a movie and it won't be interactive then you could just make the whole thing in FCP and export it as an FLV file. Then you can just use Flash to play the video using either the media components or your own player if you want to make one.
You can export an FLV file right from FCP or you can use something like Sorenson Squeeze to create. The latter will give you much more control and better quality.
As for the average window size, its the same considerations as when you create an HTML webpage. I never go bigger than 800x600 for web stuff. And as for the video, the standard 4:3 size for the web is 320x240.
