Hi,
I've created an animation with C4D and saved it as .avi but when I upload it to YouTube it loses a lot of the quality so I wanted to render and save as .mov but the option isn't there.
I've installed QuickTime so I can't think of anything else to do!

Can you also advise of how to keep the HD quality of the current .avi file? It took a long time to render (76 hours) so I don't want to try it again unless I am sure it will work.
The previous settings were 1280 by 1024 with 24fps

I've uploaded it to YouTube as a raw file and via Vegas. Even as a raw avi (601mb) a lot of the quality was lost. There is a ton of reflective light in the original, but it is all lost on any upload that I do.

Any help is much appreciated.

What OS are you using? There was a time when Apple hadn't provided a 64 bit version of QT for Windows so it wasn't available, but that shouldn't be a problem now.

As for Youtube, it sounds like the problem is on their end, as they recompress whatever you give them. Or perhaps you can try different upload options. Maybe try Vimeo, which I think has better compression.

I'm foolishly using Windows 8 Developer Preview. I have to now wait until October before I can upload a bug free Windows 8.

Ah, I'd guess it's probably something to do with the OS, then. I think Maxon had to do some tricks to get QT to work with Win7 64 bit and something may have gotten broken in Win8. I'd give Maxon tech support a ring or send an e-mail. I'm sure the developers must be testing on Win8 and might have some kind of workaround.

You could always render it out as a .tiff or .png sequence and import it into another program like After Effects and see if a QT movie would render out of there, or try something like MPEG Streamclip to convert the sequence into a .mov file.
