Beveled edge for the love of...

This simple task has plagued me since I began learning 3D. All I want to do is make a cube with a portion cut out. When I use a boole I get the bevel on the inside, but I don't know how to bevel the outer edges. When I select them and bevel I get crazy results.

please help.

Beveling inside c4d has been known to have its issues.

I do most of my beveling on edges. Select the specific edge loop and use bevel command.
I also use hyper nurbs and add a few edge loops to control it.... generally good results I avoid the weighting control since I never get what I expect from it.

Have you worked with the extrude commands? It may be more effective for getting your shapes.
