C4D R10.5/R11/R11.5 performance test - slow R11
by Andrew Norton on Sep 8, 2009 at 6:14:02 am

Here is a performance test of the 3 last C4D Versions.

The rendered scene was a visual with 7 glossy balls on a black backgroud, rendered with ambient occlusion and global illumination on.

10.5______1:49______Mac Pro 8x2.8______Leopard

11_______7:53______Mac Pro______Leopard

11.5______5.03______Mac Pro______Leopard

11.5______5.05______Mac Pro______Snow Leopard

----------------------------------------------------------------

10.5______7:05______iMac 2.33 Dual______Snow Leopard

----------------------------------------------------------------

So make a test of your own.

WHERE IS THE PERFORMANCE GONE.

You can't directly compare GI between versions 10.x and 11.x unless you optimize both engines for speed/appearance. The R11 GI engine is actually much faster and better than R10s, but the default settings are a little high (i.e., they will generally produce a much better looking result than R10's default settings).

If you do a lengthy GI animation with camera animation then R11.x can literally be hundreds of times faster than R10.

R11 is also considerably faster for all-around (non-GI rendering)

As far as 11.5x goes, it is generally faster that R11, but the improvement is particularly evident when using displacement and soft shadows. 11.5x can be 500-1000% faster when those features are enabled. Likewise when you have many transparencies in your scene and employ 11.5's "raytrace all" mode rather than the default hybrid.
