Rigging/ Weight Map Issue
by Trevor Gent on Jul 4, 2009 at 7:45:21 am

Hi C4D'ers!

I'm trying my first character rig in C4D and running into some problems.

I have viewed numerous tutorials and am pretty sure I am following along as I should but still having the same issue.

Here's the scenario:

I've set up a simple joint/ ik chain, lets say, for a characters arm.

Then I select all the joints as well as the mesh and select "bind".

When I move the "Goal" around the whole body of the character moves and gets horribly distorted!

In one tutorial it was explained that once I bind the joints there should be "auto-weighting" ... I see no sign of this.

Also I have tried to weight the mesh (by clicking the "weight tool" and then the effecting joint) and NOTHING...

I don't get a weight map, I don't see any black and white display telling me which areas are effected by the joints. There is just a brush that does nothing.

I am doing something wrong I know it. (Am using R11)

I am going to hit all the tutorials again in hopes to find an answer. Just thought I'd cast my net in here as well!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Trevor

Figured it.

I'm using a symmetry object and did not know that this must be shut off AS WELL as the Hypernurbs object in order to use the wieght tool properly.

Thanks anyway!

Oh great been banging my head on this all morning. Thanks for answering your own question. I know it feels stupid sometimes. But it helped me.
