Logo extrude and illustrator import weirdness
by Elin grome on Sep 10, 2008 at 8:56:43 am

Hi guys,

Noob - Looking for some help in creating a logo extrude; For one of those FOX sports style chrome team badges.

2 things:

a) If anyone has any tutorials/pointers would be great, obviously some extruding bending gonna be needed - im sure i can figure it out but always easier to stand on the shoulders of others ;)

b) specifically related to import of ai artwork. Ive imported the artwork using the merge command and unchecked the "connect splines" pref etc. All fine, I then set about moving the splines into the appropriate groups and naimg them.

Now thats where the problems come... splines just start dissappearing... then appearing again... or not... or sometimes i make all splines invisible in the object manager but some remain visible :s so i open the artwork in another c4d project then re-copy over the missing splines... etc etc... no particular method, just madness...

Anyone had these experiences? Is it re-draw, bug or my rampant crack habit ;)

Cheers for any advice,

Elin

Ok, so it seems...

...that its best to import those problematic splines separately - using connect splines where necessary...

v much like the little ive seen from c4d - but this seems to be one thing that could be improved :(

Still need help! Same project - different problem :)
by Elin grome on Sep 14, 2008 at 1:57:17 pm

Hi all,

so ive finally managed to extrude my illustrator splines and create a simple extruded logo with some materials, now i need help sprucing it up a bit as its rather "flat"; just a simple extrude with caps to soften the edges...

I would really like to put some more detail onto the whole object, how to i create much softer, rounded surfaces rather than flat extruded caps? of course i can push/pull points but im sure there must be an easier way?

Ive messed about with bulge, bend etc but no real joy :(
