Step effector falloff (mograph module)
by alon_a on Oct 25, 2006 at 5:29:05 am

Hi,

I'm trying to achieve a seemingly simple effect with the mograph module, but I'm baffled by the behavior of the falloff in the step effector.

I have a simple rectangular grid of thin squares, like a floor with tiles. It's made with the cloner object in grid array mode, 12x12x1 cubes. I want the cubes to flip over, namely rotate 180 degrees, but instead of doing it all together I'd like it to happen column-by-column. I thought a step effector with a linear falloff could do the trick, but I can't make it work. The positive Z axis (no effect) works fine, but as the effector sweeps the clones, some cubes rotate 180 degrees, others rotate less (depending on the row), and I'm not sure why that is.

Any thoughts...? Thanks!

AA

You need to adjust the spline curve of the effector on the "Effector" tab. Make sure you have a straight line at the top of the diagram, so the effector is always using the maximum value for each clone as it passes thru (which in your case would be 180

Ah. So the linear falloff affects one axis, and the effector's spline still effects the other axes - got it.

Thank you!
