Mapping a path on a terrian
by Bryan Richards on Nov 30, 2005 at 9:09:08 pm

Previously i asked how to make a terrain from a dxf in cinema like 3dsmax.. answer = not possible

well got around it by creating an .obj file, cinema likes that bad boy
so now got the entire Tyne and Wear in 3d (yes, big)

NOW I WANT TO PUT SOME PATHS ON. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY?

i know about the selection tag, but as you can only apply that to squares you get a zig zaggy edge. secondly my polyline arrangements have all triangulated do to the difficult imports. Poly lines = contors

maybe i could use the Mocca function. if so how do i creat the shape
(flat long path, 0 thickness or 1mm)to drape over the terrain?

Or if you have a better idea. feed me with knowledge. thanks

I'm not sure what you mean about your polylines being triangulated; how can a line have triangles?

Anyway, for the paths, I would draw splines from the top viewport and project them onto the terrain (structure>edit spline>project). Then you can loft or extrude the splines.

thanks again, love the response times!!

works a treat

just to clarrify what i meant by triangulating:

i think its just the way the wire mesh tries to formulate the solid terrain from the polylines. They look like they are made up of triangles where a poly line curves. not important but thought id just try and explain..

cheers again Adam
