Hi All,
I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this question but I'm sure someone could point me in the right direction. I just picked up an old JVC SR-VS20 Mini DV/S VHS Recorder Player. I am trying to connect it to a Mac Pro, Dual Core Intel Xeon 2.66 G, 4 G dimm. I have it connected via firewire but Final Cut and the Computer for that matter can't seem to find it. Do I need a special capture card? I thought that it would just show up like an external video device. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Craig Maynard

I'm not familiar with that particular model, but I seem to recall some of the older DV/SVHS combo decks either had an internal menu item to switch output between analog and DV out, or would only output over Firewire from a DV tape.
So, to use SVHS tapes, you may need to dupe them to DV tape first (what a hassle!).
Actually, I just found a link that says you have to have the dub switches set to VHS to DV and it does the conversion and outputs on the firewire:

Thanks for the quick response. I will try to hook up a monitor to check the menus. It seems to me that FCP and the Mac Pro should at least recognize that it is in a firewire port. Thanks for the tip, I will check out that link.
