Looking for low end camera - used?
by Joel42 on Jul 23, 2007 at 1:40:04 am

Ok, I bought the RODE Video mic with 1/8 plug. And my Handycam failed.
I'm at the LOW end of the market obviously.

What are your recommendations for used equipment? NW is preferred, but I'd drive to SouthEast for a good deal.

The entry level SONY's appear to have DROPPED mic inputs.

I don't think I can afford any HD equip. Thought maybe someone who went HD might have an extra DV they would let go for less $. (Dreaming?)

Most of my work is "man-on-the-street" interviews, family documentaries, etc. (and my adult kids steal off to make short indie films.)

Looking for all suggestions. really appreciate the wealth of knowledge in this group!

What is your price range? $1000 to 500? Less?

I have a Sony HVR Z1U HDV I would let go for about $2600 with 3 large batteries. It is used but in good condition. Great camera, good price for HD with XLR inputs.

Re: Looking for low end camera - used? Maybe CANON?

Yep, Really low end. I'm thinking 300- $500. We've cut the home budget WAY back, as we've got three in college all at the same time. (I know, what crummy planning was that?). And I understand, you have to pay good $ for quality. I'm just freaked out on the SONY stuff now. I thought the soft touch buttons on screen were a very flexible, great idea. Till the screen stopped working. I heard good reviews on CANON ELURA 100, but seems like they're discontinued?

[Joel42] "(I know, what crummy planning was that?)."

What were you thinking of at the time?

Oops, never mind.
