HDMI-SDI HDV @ 24p- convergent MI box
by Peter von Puttkamer on Sep 7, 2008 at 7:30:27 pm

Has anyone here had experience with transferring HDV from a Sony V1U camera shot at 1080 24p.
So HDMI- to SDI, then I'm having trouble transferring into the KONA CARD through the MI- Box- at 23.98; it only seems to like 29.97. Does HDMI actually export 23.98 frame rates? Any other tips about doing this process. I need the HDV to go onto a full HD 1920 x 1080 sequence at 23.98.

thanks Pvp

Here is why, the V1 in 24p record mode will only record 24 frames progressively every second, however Sony then sends this to another processor that adds pulldown creating 29:97 or 30 frames per second or 60i then it is encoded to mini DV tape as HDV 60i. You are not going to get the MI to remove the pulldown and why would you want to as the 24p look is in the 60i stream. What is great about this workflow is that you are capturing Full Raster HD 1920x1080 with the HDMI with error correction control that is ready to edit as 60i. HDMI nor the MI remove pulldown and you don't need it to. The look of 24p is locked into the 60i from the tape. If you find a way to remove it chances are it will be added back for either DVD OR BROADCAST DELIVERY. Sorry it took so long to return this post, I have been shooting an Animal Planet series.

Good Luck
