nano flash & DSLr's

Hi, it's interesting DSLR's really now starting to incorporate video recording (like the Nikon D90 etc), I wondered if the combo of say the newly announced Canon D50 with HDMI output and say the Nano flash could/might work.
Could I record the still camera's Live View via the hdmi and get great quality? I could capture the audio straight to the Nano Flash. I figure the DSLr's onboard recording would be compressed lots so that's why the Convergent Design stuff would be ideal and switchable, even between still/video cameras.
This combo would be a great way to use all those still lenses and get shallow DOF etc..

Hi Evan-
This could be a very cool application. Are you sure the "live mode" actually outputs a video stream out HDMI? The specs are unclear to me. I see that you can play back a still photo out HDMI, but was unsure if you can see an live video out HDMI.
If this works, the nanoFlash would be an ideal capture device.

Hi Micheal, thanks for the quick reply!
Yes, I'm only guessing too so I'm not too sure about a video stream...I hope so! But maybe some "still' cameras could be used this way as your recorders could just use it as a source...right, although the frame rate could be the hurdle I suppose.
Anyway, how soon are you away from your 2 recorders releases?

Hi Evan-
I'll check with my contacts at Canon and post a reply. The Flash XDR is now shipping to alpha site customers. The nanoFlash is in design, but no exact release date has been set.

Thanks again Michael.
I found some info on DP Review's site on the Nikon D90;
"Like the D3/D30/D700, the D90 offers HDMI digital high definition video output. From the setup menu you can select between Auto, 480p, 576p, 720p or 1080i output, in this section we are only going to examine the 720p and 1080i options. HDMI output works in any mode which would otherwise use the LCD monitor; shooting information, menus, live view and playback. It has to be said that using live view over HDMI to a HD LCD or Plasma screen really is an amazing experience and could be extremely useful in studio photography situations. Below we have provided captures of HDMI output in both 720p (1280 x 720) and 1080i (1920 x 1080) resolutions just to give you a sense of the amount of detail visible. My only disappointment would be that there didn't seem to be a way to display the image without any shooting information (except when magnifying), this means that the default display (top image below) is only using 74% of screen width (theoretically, given aspect ratio differences this could be 84% without the status lines at the bottom)."
