SD-Connect's feature "Frame Synchronizer"

I would like to know how is "Frame Synchronizer" working in SD-Connect. I can't find results of this feature. I expected that not synced incoming signal (Composite or Component) should be adjusted to either internal generator or external reference, similiar to timebase corrector operation, but i constantly receive a ANLG VIDEO UNLOCKED then i need output video synced to ext ref, but source is unable to sync.

Hi Max,
The Frame synchronizer feature is not like a timebase corrector. The timebase corrector fixes jitter issues from low grade video (like from an old VHS tape that has degraded). A frame synchronizer syncs stable video to an external reference.
Is the video you are trying to sync unstable? There is a setting under capture settings -> video src to change the video source to consumer/professional. Try setting that to consumer. The SD-Connect cannot always lock to very unstable sources (as most equipment would have the same issue). Also try the latest beta firmware 1.1.248.

With version 1.1.244 "Vid Src Genlocked" options helps to capture video not synced with ref, but require turn on internal ref source. With version 1.1.248 i am unable to capture video from unsynced source at all, even "Vid Src Genlocked" do not help.

Hi Max,
Is there a way you could connect to the Beta SP via component video? Component delivers higher quality video with less jitter.
What is your 1394 connected to? Does the Pal/NTSC setting match the video source?

In future i am going to use composite source for capturing and sync adjusting to ext ref or internal ref of SD-Connect - that why i connected BetacamSP to CVBS input to avoid messages like "you source is very unstable" and etc. I also tried with Panasonic SD-930....
I am in PAL world. I connected SD-Connect to PC. I tested win DVApp, WinDV, Premiere - results are the same.
I had never such problem with non synced analouge signal against Matrox or Leitch product, even my $300 Canopus ADVC works fine with snand-alone analouge composite (S-Video) video sources.

Hi Max,
Could you try the following? It will give us more information.
Switch the unit to standalone mode (setup -> application -> stand-alone) (the 1394 is not active in this mode). Change to unidirectional mode (setup -> direction -> unidirectional). Change the input settings to match your input video (input settings -> video src -> CVBS). Now attach a monitor to the output of the SD-Connect and let me know if the video is stable.
