Differences between Connect SI and Connect LE
by Kevin Wild on Nov 14, 2006 at 4:08:05 am

Can anyone help spell out the differences between these units?

I am thinking about getting one of these units to capture footage from the Canon H1 into a Kona LHe. Will the audio be embedded over the HD SDI cable into the LHe unit?

Also, I know when using firewire HDV capture, it captures an independent clip every time there is a camera stop/start due to the MPG2 compression/GOPs. If using this unit and capturing into the Kona using DVC Pro HD, will it still do this or will the capture ignore the GOP start/stops.

Thanks for any help.

Kevin

Hi Kevin-
There is comparison chart on our web site which summarizes the differences. Go to the home page and clock on the "HD-Connect Family Summary". The audio and time-code are embedded in the HD-SDI output on all the HD-Connect products.

I am fairly certain you will not get independent clips based on the "start/stop" breaks in the capture. This is certainly true on Sony and as I recall also for Canon. For JVC tapes, however, you will get a time-code break, as JVC creates an MPEG2 discontinuity whenever the capture is interrupted (even with a "record-pause" event).
