Using SD Connect as a "Camera"?
by christopherk on Sep 1, 2006 at 6:45:31 pm

I have a strange situation here. I'm trying to capture DV from SDI, which is perfect for the SD-Connect. However, I want to record using DVRack by SeriousMagic.

Here's the reason why:
I want to trigger a record in DVRack using a GPI. I have found a couple of GPI to RS422 adapters. So what I want is to take the GPI from our Master Control switcher, and have it trigger the record button on the RS422 adapter. I'm hoping that the record function will route through the SD Connect and tell the DVRack to start recording (DVRack interprets pushing the record button on a camera as a "start recording" feature) Then, I would have another GPI hit the stop button which I'm hoping translates to stop on DVRack.

Has anyone tried something so crazy? I'm thinking it won't work, but I'm really hoping to be proved otherwise.

Thanks for any help!
Chris

Is there a reason why you think it wouldn't?

...or is there a way to bypass the SD Connect with that trigger cable and go direct?
