Success with HD-Connect LE.
by Michael Slowe on Mar 19, 2006 at 10:56:22 am

Just thought I would post with news of my experience with the long awaited magic box! Thanks to the Schell gentlemen it seems just fine. I am going into Media 100 HD with uncompressed 8 bit HD upconverted from HDV like it says on the box. Machine control with the Sony HVR-M10 seems fine (occasional blips but shutting down and restarting cures it) but no batch digitizing which we knew beforehand. Timecodes and audio perfect and general satisfaction so far.

Difficult to judge picture quality yet because I am monitoring on an old CRT, the Sony PVM-14M but it looks OK. It's a pity that we can't go back out through the box via firewire but you can't have everything and once the Schell's have had some sleep maybe we'll get that!

Just thought I'd add my 2 cents worth. Been using the HD Connect LE for a few days now with Final Cut Pro and it rocks. Batch capture works fine with FCP.

Cheers

Same here. FCP with HD-Connect LE. After we got the latest firmware in place, we have had no problems. This box is a life saver for us, whereas, we have to turn around a show every day under tight deadlines in that day... Rendering HDV in a DVCPRO HD timeline is unacceptable from a time and quality standpoint. This box does the trick. Thank you Schell Bros!

Lost Machine Control!!
by Michael Slowe on Apr 3, 2006 at 10:33:21 am

After posting a happy tale I am now in trouble, no machine control which makes life very difficult. Up to now I regained it by powering down and re starting but no joy now. The problem is always caused by switching Media 100's edit suite between 'Acquire' and 'Edit'. Any ideas John or Mike before you disappear to NAB?

Does it regain deck control when restarting Media100 iHD or when powering up the whole system from cold? Or has it stopped working under any circumstances?

I'm an idiot! I had changed the machine control setting in Media 100 for mastering and forgot to re set, all is now well again but it still doesn't like changing from acquire to edit and back again but that is probably a Media 100 issue rather than Convergent Design. Thanks for your interest.
