SD-Connect & HDV
by Steve Slocomb on Apr 23, 2005 at 5:19:26 pm

A little while back I got a SD-Connect unit. I've used it just twice for component Betacam to firewire conversion and it has worked fine. Now I am the owner of a Sony FX1 HDV camera. Is there no feasible use for this format in the SD Connect box...no firmware coming down the pike?? I know there is a new box in the works but that isn't cost effective for the small amount of work I intend to do in that format.

Hi Steve,
Unfortunately, the SD-Connect cannot support HDV. It can support your camera if you use it in DV mode, but not in HDV mode. HDV is a different type of compression and the SD-Connect cannot handle it or the high definition video.

Just a thought here.
You could take the SD component feed from a HDV camera / deck through the SD Connect into a DigiBetacam deck. I don't think you'll fare too well with TC but I'm thinking picture quality maybe better than the straight SD DV output from the HDV deck.
