Install new HD's in Xserve RAID?
by Tim Gull on Jun 18, 2008 at 3:46:13 pm

I have a Xserve RAID from late 04' and I am currently running 4x250gig on each side.

I am considering buying more hard drive trays off of ebay and then putting new 750gig Western Dig. drives in all of the trays.

Has anyone had any problems doing this?

Can I just use Western dig. 750gb 7200prm sata drives?

Thanks!

So far as I know, the Apple RAIDs only support ATA drives. When it came time to upgrade the Apple RAID to SATA Apple just decided to work with outside manufacturers like Promise instead.

The RAID would also have to support the 1.5.1 firmware upgrade in order to handle 750GB drives.

Good Luck. Jesus.
