Chinese Max file with materials not opening in English language MAX 2009

Hi,
I have a scene file of a living room with all materials and the file itself named in Chinese. When I try inserting it into my own MAX file, it imports without any materials. If i try to open the chinese file independantly, id doesn't open at all unless I rename it. how do i import the Chinese file with all materials?
