Data simulation imported back to 3ds max.

On the Autodesk site, under the Flame section, Sway studios talks about their in house driving simulator that they can adjust various elements of and then import the data back into max for final renders. Not knowing what the driving simulator is written in I would imagine that it exports data in a way that maxscript can use to import that data back into max.

Does anyone have suggestions on where I would even begin to learn to create an application of this nature? Any sugguestions on books or sites that may discuss the best programming languages to pick up along with favorite maxscript material?

Thanks,
Brian

In looking further into this I may be better off attempting to mod an open source simulator, such as "Racer", and work on gathering data into Max from that. The "MAXScript 101" training by "Michael Hurwicz" may be a good starting point for diving into maxscript. If anyone has any additional feedback I would still appreciate your suggestions.
