Crashing in render output!

Ok, it's driving me nuts. I've tried calling autodesk tech but I can't ever reach them. Anyhow, when I go into my render output and want to change compression on a project it hangs, then will just crash. I can't at all render to a quicktime, it will automatically crash. I did the updated patch,graphics drivers, etc. nothing helps at all. I'm also not getting a preview in the preview window in the output.

Sony Vaio pent d2
1gig Ram
Radeon x1300 graphics card
