FS-100 Firewire connection problems

We have an FS-100 for use with our Panasonic HVX cams. Recently the unit went from working sporadically but usable to now not working at all. When the device did get detected, the unit does not go into the "pause/record" status as normal. After record is engaged, the unit displays record for less than a second and then returns to pause mode. Currently the unit does not even get recognized by the camera. The cam reports that "no 1394 device is attached". This was tested with several cables and two different Panasonic cameras. All settings have remained the same for both the cam and FS unit as when the pair was working properly.
Any thoughts on something we can try before committing to sending in for repair?

Try mounting it to a computer as you would when transferring files. If the computer does not "see" it then the firestore may have a problem. We had issues with one of our FS100s losing communication with the camera, (hdx900), intermittently and finally sent it back to Focus Enhancements. They replaced the firewire connectors and turned it around quickly. It works fine so far. We still always gaff tape the connectors on both ends. Firewire cables don't lock and are prone to slipping loose when you're moving the camera. Good Luck.
