Another Firestore to FCP question
by Ron Craig on Apr 5, 2008 at 10:43:05 pm

I was in a short thread on the Final Cut Pro forum about this but didn't get a response on this last question and I thought this might be a better forum for it.

I would like to know if it is possible to import data from Firestore in such a way as to have that imported data conform to the pre-existing settings on a Final Cut project, e.g. 720/24p, 1080i/30 fps, etc. My experience so far is that when I import Firestore data it comes into the project in whatever form it was originally recorded and, therefore, requires rendering when the Final Cut sequence settings don't match the Firestore data.

When working with tapes I can capture the video through my Kona 3 card, which will convert the data into whatever form I want. But I can’t run Firestore data through the Kona, of course. Is there a way to convert Firestore data during import?

I would like to move more toward a Firestore-oriented workflow in my studio. But quite often I have to import video data from more than one source. The project settings can be already well-established by the time the Firestore data is set to be imported. So it would be extremely helpful if I could import Firestore data that will match the existing project settings.

Thanks.

NO the firestore is the always the codec of the camera, with the FS100 and panasonic cameras it will always be DVCProHD, 50 or 25. You would have to convert the footage via another process, using compressor or playing out of one FCP system with the DVCProHD footage via a card like the Kona and then into a 2nd system with another capture card.

There would need to be a firestore play that had SDI out to do what you want to do.

That's what I thought. Thanks for the confirmation.

Cheers,

Ron
