webcam to firestore
by Olivier Aubut on Feb 7, 2008 at 2:53:35 pm

We're doing some research for an upcoming broadcast series.
I'm wondering if it's possible to record a pencil-cam or webcam directly to a firestore. I'm guessing the webcam would need to have a firewire connection. Am I right?
If it's not possible, would anyone have suggestions for recording 8-10 hours days in a canoe (preferably tapeless).

thanks in advance
Olivier

If the camera is sending a true DV single it should work. You would set it up as non-controllable and start and stop the recording on the Firestore unit.

8 hours of DV would be about 110GB. The problem you are going to have is battery power you will need a external pack or several batteries to swap out. The extended 3 hour battery gives me between 90-120 minutes on my FS-100.

Thanks Michael for your response
So the FS-100 can take any dv signal?
Is it able to record dvcpro HD from an sd source?
thanks again
Olivier

The FS-100 records DV(25) and all the DVCPro (up to HD) but it will not convert so what the camera send it records. no upconverting or downconverting.

Oh, just to be clear, HDV is not supported on the FS100. You haven't mentioned it but I wanted to make sure. I'm pretty there is a firestore that does support HDV just not the FS100
