FS-100 Quicktimes-One long stream or individually?
by brassmnkys on Apr 30, 2007 at 4:51:57 pm

Using FS-100 and HVX200. I've been trying to figure out how to get the QT files to record individually instead of one QT stream. Anybody have any ideas?

Not sure what your question is, since the FS-100 doesn't do clip spanning. They will be broken up into the small segments demanded by the FAT32 implimintation in the FS-100. Can you clarify your question, as it "to me" defies what the FS-100 physically does. In other words, the FS-100 doesn't put QT files into one long stream.

I think I understand what the OP is saying. It's not that the Firestore is making one huge file it's that it is not break the files up into individual shots as the camera is triggered. it keeps adding to the same QT file till it reaches the 2 gig limit that starts a new one, so some takes end right in the middle as it's in 2 different QT files.

We had this exact problem when using a firestore with Panasonic HDX camera, to Firestore in Quicktime mode. We abandoned it after day one as it made logging too difficult. It was back to P2 mode.

Actually as far as the HVX-200 goes, that information is incorrect. Every time you stop recording and begin recording again, a new clip is created. Also if you are using the 720Pn mode, you actually get double the amount of time before a long clip is segmented into another clip. This is why if you stop the Firestore while using the Pn mode, it will default back to the normal 720p "time remaining" reading. You will notice when you start recoding in Pn mode again, the FS-100 "time remaining" indicator shows double the amount of recording time left than when it is stopped. So in other words, the pN mode allows you to double your recording time on the FS-100 compared to the regular 720P mode.
I have also noticed that when importing QT Pn files (from a long performance shoot) into FCP, the first set of clips do indeed come in spanned.

Notice my post said Panasonic HDX... as in HDX 900. Glad to hear this is not the case with the HVX-200. We struggled with this on the HDX 900, talking with Firestore and everything. This is a new camera and hopefully they are working the bugs out.

They really should name these cameras something that's isn't go cryptic and similar.
