 | .dv files, why i hate them, and why i want to kill people who use cameras. :)

Someone recoreded a large amount of footage on a firestore that I need to edit. I am using FCPHD, and the files are .dv in nature.
they work fine, except i have to link all the files, because they are each only 1.8 gigs in size, and the audio needs to be rendered.....
what type of format should the shooters be using so that it will be compatable with FCP????? I have no information on what firestore they are using to shoot, all i know is this is my problem now.....
thanks for any help

You should be using QuickTime which has been in every FireStore model since about 2002. This file type is native to FCP.

well, cool, perhaps they'll fix it in the future, or i am going to further insane than i already am.

well, here is the thing.......apparently the university i work at, HAS to record the events using the RAWdv format, because it works better with there weird hardware web encoder called an anystream or something like that...
so what can we do, were using FCP HD, and we have to for some reason render all teh audio out...it takes forever in FCP to do, but for some reason, quicktime pro does it in a snap, however each program i get, has at least 7-9 files in it (1.8gb file limit)
this is never going to stop, the school shoots lectures and i turn them into dvds so the students can watch them if they miss class, or are sick, or need a second viewing.....there has to be an easier way.

The easier way is for EVERY editing program to edit native .DV files without the need for transcoding... this means that Windows and Mac both need to support native .DV and all the players have to come on board. I doubt this will ever happen, but that is the only realistic end to this madness... and it's been going on for quite some time now.

i dont know what the issue is. all i know is that this is really angering me. this school bough these firestores to speed up or processes, but its slowed they down slower to where they were before.
bring me minidv tapes. please.

Maybe a silly suggestion, but does iMovie support *.dv files?
