adjusting gain within garageband
by Hamilton Robinson on Jun 6, 2008 at 11:43:59 pm

HI

I am interested to know if you can adjust input level (gain) in garageband for an external mic?

Where is the input level setting in garageband for a podcast?

Cheers

Ham

Two places really...

Mac OS X:

System Preferences>Sound>External Microphone>Line In>Input Volume

GarageBand (well, you don't really set levekls with this step):

GarageBand>Preferences>Audio/MIDI>Sudio Input>Built in Audio

Basically the thing to remember is that the audio inputs on Macs are at line level, so you usually have to either preamp (boost) the signal or use a line-level mic. (Usually, I just use a four channel Radio Shack mixer.)
