Newbie Q: Soundtrack vs. Garage Band
by April on Apr 25, 2005 at 4:37:51 pm

Hello -

I want to transfer an audio cassette to CD, and am wondering a) how to set that up with my computer/stereo (do I need a special cable?) and b) would I use Soundtrack or Garage Band for editing? I'm not sure the difference, as I haven't used either yet.

Thanks much!
April

It depends on what model of Mac you have...I guess most of the newer models have analog audio inputs...there was a batch of G4 towers apparently that didn't and enough people complained so that Apple put 'em back! (I've used my old Blue and White G3 to digitize audio cassettes via its miniplug input jack; it works pretty good even though audio professionals say that you really should use balanced XLR connections.) GarageBand is probably more ideal for that kind of audio work...I've been using GarageBand most of the time now (although Soundtrack does have the ability to display a video window while you are designing an actual soundtrack, so it's handy for that).
