The information Windows users need to install a G-Speed es PRO
by Jonas Bendsen on Aug 19, 2009 at 10:26:39 pm

Since G-tech doesn't put the necessary drivers and manuals in the box with the very expensive hard drive array you just purchased, I will let you know some information that you'll need to install your es PRO.

First of all, the RAID card you received is a rebranded RocketRAID 4320. It's a good card. I don't know why G-Tech won't just tell you what you're buying in the first place. It would make it a LOT easier to find a driver for the card you just purchased.

Second, there actually is a driver folder for Vista on the G-Tech site, it's just not in an easy place to find (like linked to the product page). This is an update to the completely worthless CD that came with your product (that CD contains no drivers for Vista 64).

The zip file you're looking for is here:
http://www.g-technology.com/Support/Software/G-SPEED-eS-Pro-v1.0.2.zip

As for a manual for Windows users, I guess you're just SOL.

Since you don't get a manual, here's a piece of valuable information that you'll need to know to use your WebGUI for your esPRO. When prompted for a user/pass, it's admin/0000. Without that, you won't be able to use the Web GUI app.

Hope this saves someone from having to spend hours finding information that should be included in the first place.

Also, I believe you have to format your drives (NTFS or FAT32) before you can start using them (configuring a RAID array, etc.), but I'm not sure about this, as clicking on the "http://localhost:7412" link in my Web GUI no longer works, so I can't get to any sort of configuration utility.

Awesome.

Just wanted to clarify... the drives come formatted for Mac in RAID 0. In order to use them on a Windows machine, they need to be formatted for Windows (FAT32 or NTFS --or I suppose you could install a Mac format compatibility program).

I am not sure, however, if formatting the drives is something done before or after (or during) configuring a new RAID array (and since there's no manual available...).

The problem we are running into now is that we cannot access the Web GUI. The program is set to open itself in your default browser and access "http://localhost:7402". However, when we try to open the link in any browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, or the G-Tech recommended Safari), we simply get a "can't establish a connection to the server at localhost:7402" error.

Thus, we cannot set up our RAID-5 array.

Gene at G-Tech has been very helpful...

Don't know what the issue was with the Web GUI. We uninstalled and reinstalled and it seems to be working now. By the way, the localhost port for PC's is 7412 vs. 7402, which is maybe the mac setting?

So to access your card, enter http://localhost:7412

Then admin/0000 for the user/pass.

There is also a possibility that you might need to add an exception to your browser (For Firefox it's "Tools>Options>Security>Exceptions" then add localhost:7412).

As to the formatting...

I the Web GUI, click on "array" under "manage." Delete the RAID 0 array. Set up the new array (it will take overnight for an 8 drive system).

You'll format the RAID array after it's been created.

Hope this helps.
