G-Raid 3 with Startech Esata controller on G5 PCI Express
by Sara Nichols on Aug 10, 2009 at 6:00:39 am

I just bought the G-raid 3 and installed a Startech PCI Express esata controller 2port on my G5 (has PCI-e). I installed the card into slot 3. Nothing installed in slot 2 and there is a firewire card in slot4. The g5 is seeing the controller but the drive is not mounting. It will mount via firewire, but not via the Startech controller. Is the Startech not compatible? I installed the 3132 driver. Help! I need this drive to run via esata.

FWIW - I just bought an installed a idotconnect esata card. The Mac sees the card... but the drive only shows up when I plug it in firewire.

haven't had time to troubleshoot - too busy filling that drive off to ship out.

Hi Aaron,

What you will need to do is set the partition map to GUID in Disk Utility using FW800 or 400, and then format it, and then you should be able to see it on eSATA. Make sure you back up your data before doing this. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I did what you recommended and it's still not showing up. Is it possible that the Startech Esta Controller card is just not working properly? Again, it does show up, but it shows up as "Other controller card". Do you have a recommend on a card for PCI Express that is known to work with the GRaid 3? Many thanks

Do you have any other drives with an eSATA port? You may have a bad eSATA port on the GR3 controller board, and would need to know this to determine that possibility.
