G-Speed array won't show up in winxp sp2 32bit.. PLEASE HELP
by adrian califf on Jul 11, 2009 at 10:15:49 am

Hi all I really hope someone can help with this as I am on a tight deadline.
I am configuring a G-speed FC array connected to a new HP xw8600 workstation
with an Atto Celerity 41ES FC card. The workstation is running winxp sp2 32bit
so I have made the volume sets 1999GB each and last volume set the remaining
amount. However when the G-speed has finished initializing the volume sets.
I cannot see them in windows disk management!!. I have restarted the computer
and shut down the computer but none of the volumes appear in disk management.
I am getting a green connection light next to port 0 on the g-speed and two green
lights on the back of the Atto card. I was initially using the atto drivers that came
on the cd but have now upgraded to the latest versions I have also updated the
firmware on the atto card but it didn't help. I figured this could be something to do
with the atto card settings but I have tried different options but it made no difference.

The only way I was able to get the volumes to show up in disk management was to tell
the array to restart the controller using web gui. However after I formatted the volumes
and restarted the system the volumes dissapeared and would not remount.

I really hope someone can help I am in a desparate hurry to get this sorted as I have to
deliver this equipment to a new client on monday morning. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

A little update to my previous posts, Alex from G-TECH support called me at 9.45on Monday morning and was very helpfull. Here's a brief outline of what he said:

On G-tech array - assign Lun's to FC 0

In atto config software - choose Port WWN discovery mode, choose AL (arbitrated loop) preffered, set speed to 4GB.

In the G-tech g-speed web GUI - choose Fibre channel config, set channel 0 speed to 4GB, set channel 0 topology to loop, and I set the channel 0 hard loop id to 1 and enabled.

Also ensure that you connect the fibre cable to channel 0 on the g-speed.

Hope that helps anyone else that has issues.

A.
