G-SAFE suspected firewire 800 bus failure
by Pat Cooper on Jun 13, 2009 at 1:29:00 pm

Hi

I have an issue with my G-SAFE drive that I hope you can give me some advice on.

I have inadvertently plugged the firewire 800 cable upside down in the back of the G-SAFE while the unit was switched on. Now the drive is not mounting on the desktop of both my G5 and Macbook Pro. Both firewire connections AND the USB2 connection fail to mount the G-SAFE on both machines. The drive status is OK and protected on both drives. I have tested the firewire 800 and USB2 cables.

Could connecting the firewire cable upside down cause both the Firewire 800 and USB2 busses to fail?

Hi Pat,

You will need to send the G-SAFE in for repair. It is possible to blow out both connections. Go to the g-technology website and fill out an RMA here: http://www.g-technology.com/Support/Support.cfm?Loc=Contact
