G Drive Mini failing to mount
by Dee Harding on Mar 17, 2009 at 11:40:51 pm

I've got a newish G Drive Mini that's always mounted on my desktop with no problems. Now it doesn't and I can't see it in the disk utility. I'm connecting with a FW 400 as usual and have changed cables etc to make sure that is not the problem. The light always comes on when the drive is switched on but just does not mount.

Two things that I think may have caused it: plugging in a power cable with the wrong voltage by mistake (one made for a Belkin firewire hub) and the other, pulling out the FW cable without dismounting the drive.

It seems like the drive is getting hot very quickly when I turn it on which it never used to do.

Please, if anyone has got any ideas I desperately need to hear them!

Many thanks.

Hi Dee,

After reading your post, it seems that when you connected the incorrect power supply to the G-Drive mini you shorted out at least the ports on the unit if not the controller board on the drive. That will need to be determined by a tech support specialist at G-Tech. I would suggest that you request and RMA by using the following Support Link or by calling 310-449-4599 and pressing 2 to be connected to the support department.

Good luck
