In case anyone wants a look at it. we just added part-1 of our Gspeed ES review to Youtube in HQ.
one thing tho - The retailer by mistake shipped us a previously returned and repaired product so we've got a brand new one coming, but not for a month (they are waiting for imports to the UK)
so i cant say if the fan noise is as it should be, I find it actualy quite noisey - by modern fan standards it's excessive. but we cant finaly judge that until the new unit arrives - also this unit has one slightly faulty (dull) blue activity LED on the bottom drive sledge.
we'll add new episodes to this review soon but, always reserving judgement about the fan noise until the brand new unit arrives - however, even if the new replacement unit is the same noise-wise, i suppose we can swap the fan for something quieter like a Noctua 80mm or whatever which would be definately worth it.
why dont gtech use Noctua's or something similar to start with if this noise level IS normal?
hope this is helpful cos there's nothing much out there for this product in video review format.
I also have an idea for Gtech - i think they should offer a customer upgrade loyalty deal, where they say "If you buy the ES & ESATA CARD & register it with proof of purchase, we'll discount purchase of subsequent ES units up to a max of 3 extra ones"
if i could add more ES units to the card and get a loyalty discount that'd be awesome and encourage more purchasers i think

In my experience, the fans did get a little quieter over time, but still noisy.
I purchased a 2TB unit when they first came out, then purchased a second 4TB unit 6+ months later as my storage needs grew. The first unit's fan is noisy, but it runs very cool. My second has a slightly quieter fan and seemingly slower RPM, but I can feel more heat coming out of the back.
Regardless of that the drives have been performing great! Will soon be repopulating the 2TB unit to match and stripe with the 4TB unit.
Now,, if only they would sell the replacement modules for a better price! Especially for those of us looking to repopulate an entire unit with larger drives..... Hopefully their acquisition by Hitachi will bring that down, or offer 4 drive/module discounts!

well surely you just use any drives you like dont you? unbolt the old ones from the sledges and add new ones isnt it?
well, I'll add the next bit of the video and you can hear how loud the fans are on my unit. I def' want to get a replacement fan, there's no need for that amount of noise in this day and age.
also btw i didnt mean to embed the video here, i just added the link url and it created the embeded player - and you cant edit your post either here which is a bit primative - doh!
this forum is written really dably. it keeps asking me to login despite hsowing all my details and just goes round in a loop

[Wolfie Joseph]"well surely you just use any drives you like dont you? "
You can, but will void warranty on the unit. Each drive in both of my units have a "warranty void if removed" sticker attached across the drive and it's sled track.
My 2TB unit is getting closer to the end of its warranty anyway, so will most likely pick up the Hitachi Deskstar replacement drives wherever is cheapest.
