Firewire dead on my brand new G-Drive Mini Triple
by Christopher Edmonds on Oct 16, 2008 at 4:36:58 pm

bought a G-Drive Mini Triple 250GB last week

it has worked fine for the last two weeks hooked up to my MacBook Pro via FW800

this morning brought it to my office and plugged into my PowerMac G5 FW800, didn't show up, wasn't listed in Disk Utility, and shows up in System Profiler as "Unknown Device".

Tried the same thing with both FW400 ports on the G5, and then with both FW ports on the MacBook Pro.

The light comes on though, and the drive makes a sound when plugged into a FW port, so it is getting power.

Plugged it in via USB though and it works fine

Any thoughts- I don't live in the US (bought it on a recent trip), and I won't be back until maybe Thanksgiving, so I can't ship it back easily.

Hello Christopher,

We are sorry to hear that your recently purchased drive is no longer working. It is not something that we hear often. Please rest a sure that we will do all that we can to remedy the situation.

I will need some more information from you please.

1. Could you please provide more information on what you may have been doing when the drive stopped responding.

2. What was the environment that you were in when the drive failed.

3. What city are you in now? Perhaps we can have someone locally support you.

4. When will you be back in the states? Perhaps we can expedite the repair of your drive.

5. Do you have information on that drive that you need? You stated that it works vis USB perhaps you can backup up the data and we can cross-ship you a replacement unit.

One last thing. Could you please use the following link to create an RMA request so that we have the information that we need on you to create the RMA. In the problem details you can provide a different address to ship to perhaps your current location that you will be in for about two to three weeks just in case. We want to remedy the situation ASAP.

After you've done that please reply to my post and provide me the WebID number so that I can follow through on this..

Hi,

I started a support ticket: CASE NUMBER: WEB 102008.1612

To answer your questions:

1 - connected it to my computer one day, with no response.
2 - office
3 - Kingston, Jamaica
4 - November or December possibly
5 - I have recovered all data via USB

After you've done that please reply to my post and provide me the WebID number so that I can follow through on this..

The Florida address listed in the ticket forwards to me in Jamaica, I just need to find someone going up to the states in the near future who can send you back the non-working drive.

thanks again
