g-drive mini not mounting
by Eric Weiher on Apr 14, 2008 at 2:37:35 pm

I have an iBook G4 and use the firewire 400 to connect my gmini, but recently my computer was frozen in the morning so I restarted it and when I did, my gmini would no longer mount using the firewire and made this clicking sound when I tried to use the USB. Any thoughts?

Hi Eric,

I am sorry to hear that you are having issue with your G-Drive mini.
Does the show up in Disk Utility using FW400?
If it does, it seems that you had a file system corruption. Whenever a drive does not show up on the desktop but show up under Disk Utility, the header file got corrupted.

This often caused by removing the device without properly eject it it.

If you have Disk Warrior or know someone who has it, you can run Disk Warrior and it will repair or recreate the damage directories.

http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/details.html

The above link fully describes "Directory Damage" and how to effectively fix and possibly prevent future problems on your Mac.

If you can lose the data in the drive, you can just initialize the drive and repartition it. The instruction is in the product CD.

I am also having problems with my G-Drive mini. The drive will no longer mount on any of my Macs with either the FW400 or USB 2.0. The light on the front illuminates, but it doesn't sound like the drive spins up.

I contacted G-Tech via their web form over 4 WEEKS ago, and only ever received an automated reply. When I called them today, I was told to re-submit my issue AGAIN on the website, and then was forwarded to voicemail. So now I'm back to where I started a month ago...a dead drive and an unanswered support request.

Terrible customer service...be warned if you are considering G-Tech products.
