unable to reduce file small enough to fit on a dvd5
by titohawaii on Feb 26, 2007 at 2:15:09 am

aloha

my 83 minute project is coming out of my sorenson squeeze program at 3.3GB when i drop it into a DVDit 6 project line it is showing the DVD 5 (4.7GB) to be
-467.20 MB. that is before the audio. i can constrain the size more in sorenson but its really effecting the quality. what is DVDit doing with the extra room on the DVD and how do i get around it?
thanks
tito

did you check the transcoding settings (File > Project Settings). Sounds like DVDit is not recognizing your files as legal and is giving you the transcoded size and that your transcoding bit rate is too high.

what version of DVDit are you using?

this looks promising. i checked the project setting as you suggested and see several discrepancies. i am coming out of sorenson VBR and the DVDit is set for CBR with a target bit rate of 8000 well above the 5000 something i needed to get on the DVD 5. the other large difference is the audio, the sorenson is set for 2 layer, 224Kbs, 16/48000 and the DVDit dolby rate is 192Kps. would you suggest i change the rate or use the MPEG PCM setting in both programs which match or adjust the Kbs rate to match?

i guess a test is in order. i will squeeze it now and i will give it a try this afternoon.

thanks

tito
